A look back: Norse Defense

This screenshot
is another one of the rare ones, released only to certain sites. This is one of the few screenshots to actually show units on boats.
-UNITS-
-Dwarf: This is pretty mysterious since it is only seen in the background, though it seems apparent he wore armor originally and had a slightly difeerent model

-Gatherer: Next to the dwarf, the gatherer can also be seen wearing armor. like the dwarf his model and texture are different.

-Jarl: The jarl like most units at the time were larger. Though the rider was changed, his horse hasn't changed too much though. This was uncommon at the time because everything was changed for quality reasons.

-Huskarl: Or at the time, the norse swordsman. There was another version with shields in a previous post, however this one is an earlier version.

-Throwing Axeman: The throwing axeman in this version shared it's model with the previously mentioned huskarl. The throwing axeman originally took threw the axes from his back like the egyptian spearman I mentioned in the last post, it was eliminated because it was hard to animate.

-BUILDINGS-
-Norse Dock: The first norse architecture was mostly stone and wooden walls, the dock shown here has a pier as part of the building, it was probably taken out because it was unecessary.

-Longhouse: In a later screenshot, the longhose is seen better, though you can see the building remains true to it's architectural style.

-Watch Tower: Like pretty much everything you see in the first stage, the watch tower was also large, about the size of a palm tree if you compare them in this shot. The tower doesn't appear to be attacking possibly because it might have needed units garrisoned inside for it to have offensive abilities.
